Greyscale, again, what do you guys at CCP smoke? Because this must be some premium ****.
Lucrative: This one is possible. However, the problem is that large, well organized alliances have driven the market for nullsec minerals into the ground by producing faster then the demand in high sec can consume and then slitting each others throats to make sales. This is, the player driven market in action.
This alone will take years to correct even if a solution is found, due to the huge surplus, combined with most corps large existing stockpiles.
Motivational: Will never happen. Mining is, in general, viewed as an irritating chore by most of the pew-pew crowd, and with good reason. I can say that I mined my own first battleship, back in 04. Any sense of accomplishment you gain is immediately undermined on losing your first battleship, which happened about four hours after I got it, since that's what low sec and null sec are like.
Sole Source of Ice and High End Minerals: Greyscale, this isn't even close to the problem. It's actually so far from the underlying problem that it will take the light from it 12 billion years to reach this. The problem is supply and demand.
For years the alliances have been out in nullsec like busy little beavers mining an epic **** ton of rare mins, and bringing them back to empire for sale. Corps in them have mined, huge, vast, titanic amounts of those rare mins already, and if they're not on the market, they're held as a reserve. I haven't even worked my way through all the zyd we mined in Fountain in 2005 before BoB threw everyone out. Yeah, you can turn it around, in the sense of creating a short term run on high end mins, followed by a proportionate crash as people start venting the huge stockpiles that either have or bought up, but again this only hurts low level players.
The problem is that supply is huge, and growing, and demand has been in the toilet for a year or better. And not just for mins. T2 sales are barely break even at this point. You going to tell me that it's the high sec miners doing that? The fact of the matter is that players are, by and large, not going to the market to buy stuff, they're going to their corp-mates or alliance members and getting things that way, if they're buying anything at all.
The Ice thing is an even worse idea, as eliminating all the lowsec ices will effectively drive under most small corps trying to set up research operations or small scale T2 production. None of those guys have the isk to burn, even at current prices, given the way the market has been behaving.
Investible: This is Eve, where 'Investment' is another word for 'scam'. Given the rate at which players are driven off even in low sec, do you think that anyone is going to risk sinking isk into developing an area without at least a major alliance at thair back?
Greyscale, I've read through your entire list of things you want to do in nullsec. To carry out this list, you've have to overhaul mining, combat, ships, and abolish alliances, hard limiting corps at 100 members. Then, and only then, would this list have any practical possibility of working. ] |
